Seis Grados / Six Degrees

Some time ago, a friend commented to me about a theory of six degrees of separation. This theory says that you can get to know any person from the world using no more than 6 relationships. I think it would be clearer with an example. Let us say that my goal in life is to know Prince Felipe (whose complete name, in case it interests you to know, is Felipe Juan Pablo Alfonso of All the Saints of Borbón and Greece) would be to maximum of six degrees of distance. And since I have already done it (and is true) we start counting:

  1. I have a friend who said tome that
  2. His brother had gone to the school with
  3. Leticia Ortiz that married
  4. Prince Felipe
As you can see each person is a degree in the chain. This theory is not considered like law, in fact is described as a scientific urban legend according to the Wikipedia. Also, a peculiar thing, is that there are some experiments on line trying to prove mainly that this theory really works, at the present time that distances seem to be smaller thanks to the use of the Internet and the e-mail. One of the projects that call my attention is the one of Find Satoshi. According to them, with a photo and the first name we must be able to find any person in the world, and later we will see how many contacts we used to arrive at them. I leave the link so that you can read and think about it :P And perhaps we are one of those six degrees of separation necessary to find Satoshi :P http://www.findsatoshi.com/ Saluditos! Megami ^^
